A National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) member collapsed and passed away on Wednesday night during the penalty shootout round of the Nigeria vs. South Africa game. Samuel, a Kaduna State soldier stationed in Adamawa, passed away moments before the decisive kick that guaranteed Nigeria’s advancement to the African Cup of Nations final.
“We lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa today at our sports viewing center here in Numan,” a witness stated in a social media post.

“The Kaduna corps member serving in Numan passed out prior to the game-winning goal kick. Before they could get to the hospital, he passed away. May peace be upon his soul.
In a phone call on Thursday morning, Mr. Jingi Dennis, the NYSC Coordinator for Adamawa State, verified the information.
“I received the news of his death last night,” the organizer stated. I’m hoping to know more information today.
“The late corps member informed his coworkers that he disliked watching penalty shootouts when they joined him to watch the game. Then he bent his head and fell suddenly to the ground.
“The doctor at the General Hospital in Numan confirmed his death.”
