Gian Piero Gasperini, the manager of Atlanta, is not pleased with the departure of winger Ademola Lookman for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Head coach Jose Peseiro of Nigeria announced Lookman’s inclusion in the team’s 25-man roster for the continent’s premier soccer tournament on Friday.
The former Leicester City player will be competing for the first time.
In the event that Nigeria advanced to the final, Lookman might be absent for around a month.
Although Gasperini said he had a good alternative for the player, he acknowledged that La Dea would be missing a vital component of the assault.
Tutto Fantacalcio cited Gasperini as saying, “It worries me that Lookman is leaving for the AFCON, yes, both for the numbers and the quality of the matches played.”
“It is evident that we are losing a key component of our attack, but we have enough players to make up for it.”
In 17 league games this season for Atalanta, the 26-year-old has six goals and three assists.
