Amotekun Arrests One And Saves Five Boys In Osun From Human Trafficking

A 23-year-old man named Isaac Okon was taken into custody by Amotekun operatives in Osun State on suspicion of human trafficking. In accordance with details released by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, on Saturday, the suspect and five young boys were taken into custody on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m. in Ajebandele, Osun State.

According to General Adewinmbi, the suspect was reportedly taking his abducted victims somewhere without telling their parents or other family members. The boys were taken from Akwa Ibom State under the guise of working in Lagos, but their employer, Osun Amotekun, revealed that they were actually being transported to Osun State to work on the farm.

“The driver of the vehicle that transported them from Akwa Ibom to Osun State noticed strange things in the vehicle,” the suspect said. “The suspect was arrested by the men of Amotekun in Ifetedo.” The driver reported the incident right away to Amotekun Ifetedo Command in the local government of Ife South, and the Amotekun Ife Area Commander was also notified. “Without delay, the agents moved to apprehend the offender immediately. The accused admitted to trafficking the young boys without the boys’ parents or other family members’ permission.

“Isaac said he met the young boys in the Akwa Ibom State motor park, where they were begging for money. He told them he could give them a job if they could follow him to Lagos State.”Without getting permission from their parents or other family members, he removed them and relocated them to Osun State.

Before bad luck struck in Ifetedo, in the Ife South local government area of Osun State, he was on his way to Ajebandele. David Dominic Udoh, a 23-year-old from Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom, is one of the victims of trafficking. David Sunday Okafor, age 11, fromArujukwu Village in Akwa Ibom State; Moses Ibom Sunday, age 10, fromIkot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State; and Wisdom Ukpong Bassey, age 15, from Akwa Ibom State, as well as 14-year-old Hope Nwem Eto from the same state.

“During questioning, he admitted to taking the young boys to Osun State without getting permission from their parents or other family members and that he had told the boys he was taking them to Lagos State when in reality he was going to take them to Ajebandele in Osun State to work on a farm.”

According to Adewinmbi, the victims and the suspect have been given over to NAPTIP, the National Agency for Prohibition On Trafficking In Persons, for further examination and legal action.
