With a “warm handshake,” President Tinubu congratulated Sanwo-Olu on his triumph.
This occurred not long after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the appeals requesting Sanwo-Olu’s removal from office, at the President’s meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Labour Party and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, their candidate for governor on March 18th, filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, requesting that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamza, be disqualified from the election. The petition was denied.
The supreme court ruled that the appeal was not strong enough to stand.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously, presided over by Justice Garba Lawal, that the respondents cannot be disqualified based on the claims made by the Lagos State Deputy Governor for the United States of America that he renounced his Nigerian citizenship.
Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s media assistant, revealed Tinubu’s response to the decision in a post on X.
Akosile states: “Today, President @officialABAT congratulated Governor @jidesanwoolu on the Supreme Court’s confirmation of his election victory in 2023.”
“The President, while having a small bantering with the governors after Progressive Governors Forum’s meeting earlier today at the Villa, singled out Governor Sanwo-Olu for a warm handshake. Congratulations, my dear boss.
