Muhammadu Buhari, the recently elected president of Nigeria, has disclosed the reasons behind the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in Katsina, the state where he was born.
According to Buhari, because the presidential election was held in his state and they assumed they would win handily, his party may have taken things for granted.

This was said by President Buhari in a book written by former Special Advisor to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015 – 2023)”.
“The brilliance of the entire system was demonstrated by my state, Katsina. Although APC did not win the presidential election, they did win the governorship.
Perhaps they assumed they would win easily because it was my state and they took things for granted previously. Being taken for granted is disliked by people, he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), running for president with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, defeated Tinubu in Katsina.
Nevertheless, Tinubu went on to triumph over Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku in the presidential race.
