On Monday, on Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa gave N30 million in microcredit revolving loans to no fewer than 66 widows of fallen heroes.
The governor stated that the gift was intended to support the companies owned by the women who had taken on the role of primary breadwinners for their families following the death of their spouses.
Aiyedatiwa revealed that the loans were given out with no interest when she spoke at the Cenotaph in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, where the widows received their checks.

He maintained that the move was made to ensure that the burden of repayment would not add to the economic challenges faced by the widows.
The governor assured them of the government’s commitment to enhancing accessibility to the loan while urging the beneficiaries to ensure the sustainability of the initiative by adhering to timely repayment.
“It is the plan of our administration to continually put smiles on the faces of the widows and children of the fallen heroes. We, therefore, crave your understanding and support to make it sustainable.”
“As we conclude this year’s celebration, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the military and civilian stakeholders who have contributed their time and resources to working together to make today’s event a reality,” he added.
