Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s late son, singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has declared himself a descendent of the late musician.
He claimed that he accepted the moniker “newborn Fela” that his supporters had given him.
In the most recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by Bae U Barbi, Portable stated, “I didn’t give myself the title, ‘Newborn Fela.'” I received it from my admirers. You are aware that I have a large following, which has helped me get thus far.
“In general, one must possess audacity; a lion is not afraid to travel alone.”
“Which superstar do you know that is bigger than me in Nigeria?” said Portable, in response to people who continued to refer to him as an emerging musician. As the currently popular musician, I am the one they are talking about. My movements, my speech, my lingo, and the way I dress have all become trends.
