Following his elimination from the 66th Grammy Awards after receiving three nominations, Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is still vying for his first Grammy.
Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Music Album, and Best African Music Performance were the three categories in which Davido was nominated; however, he was defeated in all three on Sunday night.
Similarly, Burna Boy, Olamide, Ayra Starr, and Asake, the other four Nigerian artists nominated, did not win any awards at the presentation.

Tyla, a native of South Africa, received the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance, bringing home her first-ever Grammy.
Tyla overcame a lineup of Nigerian artists that included Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Ayra Starr in 2023 after making her breakthrough with the popular song “Water.”
Davido has shown excitement about taking home his first Grammy before to the presentation.
Davido declared he would throw a crazy party if he won the Best African Music Performance award in an interview with Tetris Kelly of Billboard.
Davido continued, saying it was long overdue for the premier global music award to include an African music category.
“I am happy to have received three nominations for the first time as a nominee. However, it is long overdue for African music to be recognized, especially in the Best African Music Performance category. I’m referring to generations that came before mine, such as King Sunny Ade and Fela Kuti. I believe Sunny Ade has received a nomination; nevertheless, an African category has been added.
