Amotekun Arrests One And Saves Five Boys In Osun From Human Trafficking

A23-year-oldmannamedIsaacOkonwastakenintocustodybyAmotekunoperativesinOsunStateonsuspicionofhumantrafficking. InaccordancewithdetailsreleasedbytheCorpsCommander,BrigadierGeneralBashirAdewinmbi,onSaturday,thesuspectandfiveyoungboysweretakenintocustodyonThursday,February29,2024,atapproximately6:45p.m.inAjebandele,OsunState.
AccordingtoGeneralAdewinmbi,thesuspectwasreportedlytakinghisabductedvictimssomewherewithouttellingtheirparentsorotherfamilymembers. TheboysweretakenfromAkwaIbomStateundertheguiseofworkinginLagos,buttheiremployer,OsunAmotekun,revealedthattheywereactuallybeingtransportedtoOsunStatetoworkonthefarm.

“ThedriverofthevehiclethattransportedthemfromAkwaIbomtoOsunStatenoticedstrangethingsinthevehicle,”thesuspectsaid.“ThesuspectwasarrestedbythemenofAmotekuninIfetedo.” ThedriverreportedtheincidentrightawaytoAmotekunIfetedoCommandinthelocalgovernmentofIfeSouth,andtheAmotekunIfeAreaCommanderwasalsonotified. “Withoutdelay,theagentsmovedtoapprehendtheoffenderimmediately. Theaccusedadmittedtotraffickingtheyoungboyswithouttheboys’parentsorotherfamilymembers’permission.
“IsaacsaidhemettheyoungboysintheAkwaIbomStatemotorpark,wheretheywerebeggingformoney.HetoldthemhecouldgivethemajobiftheycouldfollowhimtoLagosState.”Withoutgettingpermissionfromtheirparentsorotherfamilymembers,heremovedthemandrelocatedthemtoOsunState.
BeforebadluckstruckinIfetedo,intheIfeSouthlocalgovernmentareaofOsunState,hewasonhiswaytoAjebandele. DavidDominicUdoh,a23-year-oldfromIkotEkpeneinAkwaIbom,isoneofthevictimsoftrafficking. DavidSundayOkafor,age11,fromArujukwuVillageinAkwaIbomState;MosesIbomSunday,age10,fromIkotEkpeneinAkwaIbomState;andWisdomUkpongBassey,age15,from AkwaIbomState,aswellas14-year-oldHopeNwemEtofromthesamestate.
“Duringquestioning,headmittedtotakingtheyoungboystoOsunStatewithoutgettingpermissionfromtheirparentsorotherfamilymembersandthathehadtoldtheboyshewastakingthemtoLagosStatewheninrealityhewasgoingtotakethemtoAjebandeleinOsunStatetoworkonafarm.”
AccordingtoAdewinmbi,thevictimsandthesuspecthavebeengivenovertoNAPTIP,theNationalAgencyforProhibitionOnTraffickingInPersons,forfurtherexaminationandlegalaction.
