Army Awards Officers For Turning Down A Bribe Of N1.5 million

AN1.5millionbribefromallegedcattlerustlersinPlateauStatewasturneddownbyeightmembersofOperationSafeHaven,whowererewardedbytheMilitarySpecialTaskForceinchargeofpreservingpeaceintheregion.
30rustledcowsbelongingtooneShehuUmarwereinterceptedattheBisichicheckpointintheBarkinLadilocalgovernmentareaofthestatebyeightpersonnelstationedatOPSHSector4,accordingtoastatementreleasedbythetaskforce’sspokesman,Capt.OyaJames.
HecontinuedbysayingthatthecattlehadbeenrobbedinManguandwerebeingtakentoasecretlocationwhentheywerestoppedbytaskforcemembersconductingastop-and-searchoperation.
“Theoccupantsofthevehicle,AnasUsman,20yearsold,andGyangCholly,42yearsold,approachedthetroopsimmediatelyinanattempttobribethemandsecureasecuritypassforthestolencattle,”thestatementreads.
Themoneyofferedforthebribewasrefused,andthesuspectsweretakenintocustody. Inadditiontogivingthedistinguishedpersonnelacashreward,thestatementstatedthatMaj.Gen.Abubakar,thecommanderofOperationSafeHaven,urgedothersecuritypersonneltocontinuouslydemonstratebraveryandgoodconductintheperformanceoftheirduties.
“Thecommanderfurtherchargedthemtoemulatetheexcellentconductoftheeightpersonnel,asrepresentedbyBrig.Gen.M.O.Agi,ChiefofStaff,OPSH,”thestatementread.
