The commission said earlier in January that Globacom customers might not be able to call MTN lines since interconnect fees had not been paid.
According to the commission, partial clearance was given for Globacom’s separation from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
However, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, the NCC announced the extension of the move and claimed that both telecommunications companies had achieved an agreement in a statement signed by Reuben Mouka, its Director of Public Affairs.

“The commission is pleased to announce that the parties have now reached an agreement to resolve all outstanding issues between them,” the commission stated in its statement. Due to this, and in the exercise of its regulatory authority thereto, the commission has decided to postpone the phased disconnection until January 17, 2024, which is 21 days from now.
“The commission demands that interconnect debts be settled by all operating companies as a necessary component towards compliance with regulatory obligations of all licensees, even though the commission expects MTN and Glo to resolve all outstanding issues within the 21-day period.”
The regulatory authority pushed mobile network providers and other telecom license holders to follow the requirements of their agreements for interconnection and licenses.
