NANS Cautions South Africans That Nothing Must Happen To Nwabali

The Super Eagles goal tender, Stanley Nwabali, has been the target of threats from fervent South African football fans, to which the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a strong warning.

When Nwabali demonstrated his ability to save penalties to secure Nigeria’s final ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 on Wednesday against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, he became a national hero.

The Nigerian goalie turned on the flair during the shootout, saving two penalty kicks to break the heart of the South Africans, after making numerous key stops during regulation time.

But many South Africans found Nwabali’s heroics to be a bitter pill, and some fans have taken it to the extreme by reportedly threatening the goalie not to return to his club, Chippa United, after the AFCON tournament.

Many South Africans, however, found Nwabali’s heroics to be bittersweet, and some fans may have taken it too far by threatening to have the goaltender not return to Chippa United following the AFCON competition.

Idah Peterside, a former Super Eagles international, revealed this on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in an interview on Channels Television.

“The main issue we’ve encountered is that we’ve received some messages containing threats against the goalkeeper.”I’ve heard that some people are advising him not to return.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Friday, NANS Senate President Elvis Ekundina cautioned the South Africans to steer clear of the Super Eagles goalkeeper.

While condemning the threats against Nwabali, the student body said, “Football should rather promote friendship and no bitterness.
