The multibillion-dollar facility, located in Lagos, the commercial center of Nigeria, finally sprang to life in the early hours of Friday, January 12, 2024, when it started producing aviation fuel and diesel.

However, Dangote asserts that Tinubu’s vision and backing were essential to achieving the historic achievement.

The wealthy businessman made this revelation at a speech to oil and gas sector participants on the historic beginning of domestic petroleum product refining.

Therefore, the well-known businessman expressed his gratitude to Tinubu, the Federal Government, its agencies, and all Nigerians for having faith in him and backing the massive project in spite of all the obstacles.

Dangote also recalled President Tinubu’s encouragement, assistance, and wise counsel in bringing the refinery project to fruition.

Dangote expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in realizing their ambition. His innovative leadership and fast attention to detail made this production conceivable as it is seen now.

“His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments, thereby, accelerating the actualisation of the project.

In addition, I would like to thank the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission for their assistance.

“Throughout this momentous journey, these organizations have been our trustworthy collaborators. We also thank Nigerians for their belief and support in our effort. We have begun producing aviation gasoline and diesel, and if we get regulatory approval, the products should be available on the market this month.

“For Nigeria, today is significant. We are thrilled to have accomplished this important goal. This is a significant accomplishment for our nation since it shows that we are capable of planning and completing major capital projects. This will transform the course of our nation, and I’m thrilled that this project has come to fruition,” he continued.

The 650,000 barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery has been heralded as a game-changer for Nigeria’s economy, since the country’s expanding population is mostly dependent on fuel imports.

In a previous letter, Dangote claimed that the refinery’s truck-loading gantries could handle 2,900 trucks per day and that its output would meet Euro V standards.
