PDP wants Betta Edu be fired and faces charges over alleged fraud.

The National Social Investment Programme Agency, or NSIPA, fund is worth N44 billion. The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has demanded that Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, be fired immediately and face charges for allegedly embezzling N585.2 million into a personal account.

On Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, revealed the party’s stance.

“Unprecedented treasury looting, unbridled stealing and plundering of resources going on in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration which has practically brought the nation’s economy to its knees,” he claimed, referring to the purported fraud as just the tip of the iceberg.

“Is it not terrible and upsetting that a minister who was given public funding to help millions of destitute Nigerians—many of whom have been left in poverty by the APC—turned around and embezzled hundreds of millions of naira intended for the poor’s well-being?

It is therefore outrageous and tantamount to robbing a people and daring them to do their worst that Betta Edu is still serving as a minister.

“It supports our Party’s stance that the Tinubu-led APC government is a hotbed of corruption and a sanctuary for tax evaders and thieves.”

According to reports, Betta Edu and Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator of NSIPA, allegedly engaged in brazen looting of billions of Naira while Nigerians for whom the funds are intended are deprived and left to endure extreme hardship and misery. This shocked Nigerians, the PDP spokesman continued.
