According to the Nigerian Constitution, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the deputy governor, filled in as governor in an acting capacity during Akeredolu’s absence.
Prior to his most recent absence, the governor had resumed his duties in September following a lengthy medical leave of absence that began in June. But as he carried on managing the operations of Ondo State from his residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, political unrest was sparked by his uncertain health.
Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa and Akeredolu’s supporters were at odds over the remote work arrangements, which resulted in attempts to remove the deputy governor both before and after Akeredolu left office.
