Ivan Omhonria, a two-year-old boy who tragically lost his life due to a stray bullet fired by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Delta State, has been laid to rest.

Reported by verified sources, the incident occurred during an NDLEA raid in the Okpanam area of Asaba on July 13, 2023. Ivan and his sibling, Eromonsele, were caught in the crossfire upon returning from school and heading to their mother’s shop.

In a conversation with our correspondent in Asaba on Wednesday, Mr. Fidelis Omhonria, the deceased’s father, expressed the family’s profound grief, especially regarding the condition of the surviving sibling.

He said, “We have just concluded the funeral service at St. Vienna Catholic Church, DBS Road. Ivan has been laid to rest in the burial ground. Our primary focus now is securing treatment for the surviving child.”

“Representatives from the NDLEA operational headquarters and others were present at the burial and are assisting us in expediting a visa for the United States for the sibling’s further medical care.”

“The Delta State Government has contacted the US embassy to hasten the process for the boy’s treatment. In this difficult time, we lean on God for comfort and care, especially for our son who sustained eye injuries. He is now one year and a few months old.”

He appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for the family, particularly for the recovery of the boy with the eye injury.
