The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency committed to developing indigenous human capacity and advancing petroleum technology for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, invites qualified Nigerians to apply for its 2025 overseas scholarship program.
This initiative aims to give scholars access to world-class learning environments and global expertise offered by renowned institutions around the world.
The PTDF Overseas Scholarship seeks to nurture indigenous talents to support the Nigerian oil and gas industry, and the scheme has been restructured to enhance local capacity-building within Nigeria.
Latest Information on 2025/26 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme
Scholarships under the updated scheme are now available as follows:
- Fully funded MSc scholarships in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
- Fully funded PhD scholarships in Germany, France, and Malaysia.
- Fully funded PhD scholarships for the UK are now offered only through a Split-Site Programme at the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), in collaboration with three UK universities:
- Robert Gordon University
- University of Strathclyde
- University of Portsmouth
Eligibility Criteria for PTDF Scholarship
For MSc Applicants:
- Minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in first degree OR a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience.
- Completion of the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
- Computer literacy.
- Five O’level credits including English and Mathematics.
- A personal statement (maximum of 500 words) outlining the motivation for the proposed study, relevance to the oil and gas industry, and expected contribution to national development.
- A valid and verified National Identity Number (NIN) (NIMC verification fees apply).
For PhD Applicants:
- Completion of the mandatory NYSC program.
- Proficiency in computer use.
- Five O’level credits including English and Mathematics.
- At least a Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree along with a strong postgraduate qualification.
- A research proposal related to the oil and gas sector (maximum of five pages), detailing the topic, introduction, objectives, methodology, and data collection strategy.
- Approved PhD research areas can be found via the provided link.
- University lecturers must submit a letter from their Vice-Chancellor confirming they are not current recipients of any other scholarship.
- Applicants must have a verified National Identity Number (NIN) (NIMC verification fees apply).
