Call for Applications: 2025 Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships for International Students

The Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth PhD Studentships are designed to support doctoral research projects that focus on themes related to the Commonwealth, particularly within the fields of humanities and social sciences.

To be eligible, proposed research must meet at least one of the following conditions:

• Focus on the Commonwealth as a whole or on any pan-Commonwealth institution or organization.
• Incorporate a comparative analysis across Commonwealth countries.
• Be relevant to multiple Commonwealth nations.

Award recipients will be required to submit an original article, ranging between 4,000 and 6,000 words, derived from their research for possible publication in The Round Table journal.
Additionally, successful applicants must produce a podcast based on their research, to be featured on the journal’s official website.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2025 Studentships

• Open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.
• Preference may be given to research areas typically featured in The Round Table journal, such as politics, international relations, economics, global history, law, development studies, geography, and area studies.
• Applicants from STEM fields will only be considered if the proposal has a strong policy-related focus.
• While a Commonwealth focus is not required at the outset of the applicant’s PhD/DPhil, the scholarship is especially suited for candidates whose work can incorporate a Commonwealth element through the funding.

Studentship Benefits

Two awards will be granted, each valued up to GBP 5,500:

1. One for a PhD candidate enrolled at a UK university.
2. One for a PhD candidate enrolled at an ACU member university in a Commonwealth country outside the UK.
