17,000 Jobs to Be Created for Nigerians Through 3MTT Program

Federal Government Secures Employment Opportunities for Digital Talent
The Federal Government has announced ongoing collaboration with Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies to provide jobs for thousands of young Nigerians trained under the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. According to Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, more than 117,000 fellows have successfully completed training, and new partnerships are being developed to help them secure jobs both locally and globally.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Dr. Tijani emphasized that while training is essential, the greater challenge lies in supporting young Nigerians as they transition into the workforce. The government is now prioritizing connections between trained fellows and organizations that require their digital expertise.

BPO Companies and the ‘Talent City’ Project

The Minister explained that the government is partnering with outsourcing companies ready to employ Nigerian digital talent and link them with international businesses. To achieve this, the Federal Government is establishing “Talent Cities” by converting government buildings into modern work hubs. These facilities will provide office spaces where BPO firms can employ and manage trained fellows at scale.

According to him, this initiative will not only generate thousands of jobs but also unlock opportunities for remote employment in global markets, allowing many young Nigerians to earn foreign currency while boosting the local economy.

Harnessing Nigeria’s Youthful Population

Dr. Tijani highlighted Nigeria’s youthful population as a major national advantage. With nearly 70% of Nigerians under the age of 30 and an average national age of 16.9 years, he believes the country is strategically positioned at a time when developed nations are grappling with aging populations.

The 3MTT program is designed to be inclusive, open to all Nigerians who can read and write, regardless of their academic background. With support from partners such as MTN, Airtel, IHS, and UNDP, thousands of fellows have benefited from training and stipends during internships. Several technology companies have already pledged to employ graduates, while others are creating opportunities for remote roles abroad.

Skills Driving the 3MTT Program

The program equips participants with in-demand digital skills that cut across multiple industries, including:

  • Data analysis
  • Digital marketing
  • Project management software
  • Cloud computing
  • SEO
  • CRM management
  • Accounting tools
  • Graphic design
  • UX/UI design

This training ensures that fellows are prepared not only for roles within Nigeria but also for opportunities with international firms outsourcing digital tasks.

Long-Term Vision of the 3MTT Program

Launched in October 2023, the 3MTT program seeks to train 3 million Nigerians within four years. The initiative began with 30,000 participants in the first cohort, followed by a second group of 270,000, bringing the total to 10% of the overall target. Future phases will involve collaborations with training providers, private companies, government institutions, and international development partners.

The Federal Government’s overarching goal is to position Nigeria as a global hub for digital talent—exporting skilled professionals to international markets while simultaneously building a strong local workforce to drive sustainable economic growth.
