Charles Inojie, an actor and director in Nigerian cinema, has called the passing of his colleague John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, a “irreparable loss” to the Nigerian film industry. He emphasized that casting the late comic actor alone was sufficient to turn a film into a hit, saying that he is irreplaceable in Nollywood. “There’s times when you lose a person in an industry and you say, well, so or so person would replace him,” Inojie stated in a recent interview with Channels TV. The death of his colleague John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has been described by actor and director Charles Inojie as a “irreparable loss” to the Nigerian film industry. He underlined that the late comic actor was irreplaceable in Nollywood and that his casting alone could make a movie a hit. Inojie said in a recent interview with Channels TV that “there are times when you lose a person in an industry and you say, well, so or so person would replace him.” But Mr. Ibu is a singular entity. Without saying a single dramatic dialogue word, he is arguably one of the few people in Africa who, even when left silent, could communicate a million ideas through gestures, body language, and facial expressions. That is not cheap. We are going to miss that. “You have John [Okafor], who is a blockbuster.”
