Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, who is nominated for a Grammy, has stated that his family founded the Anglican Church in Nigeria.
In colonial Nigeria, Kuti’s great-grandfather and grandpa, Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti and Josiah Ransome-Kuti, respectively, served as Anglican preachers.

The musician declared that he is not a Christian, even though his family played a significant part in bringing Christianity to Nigeria.

He proclaimed rather plainly that he worships “juju.”
In an interview with Spill With Phyna, Kuti called on other Africans to revert to their indigenous religions.
“If you look back at it, my family was the ones who started the Anglican side of Christianity in this country,” he stated. Among the pioneers are us. In other words, we’ve been there, done that, and gone on. We hope Africans will be able to do the same.
